The Snowy Mountains & Monaro offer visitors some the best fly fishing available in Australia. Catering for experienced fly fishers or those who wish to learn about fly fishing.

Many scenic and diverse rivers and high country lakes are found throughout the region. These fabulous waters include renowned lakes Eucumbene and Jindabyne, as well as many smaller impoundments and private still waters.

The Thredbo, Eucumbene and Murrumbidgee Rivers offer excellent Dry and Wet Fly fishing in crystalline ripples and runs, as do smaller more intimate high country streams.

At slightly lower altitude are the legendary Monaro rivers. The Maclaughlin River and Bobundara Creek are just two of the fertile granite and basalt streams that conjure images of large educated brown trout slowly sipping mayfly duns. Enough to make even the most experienced fly fishers pulse race.

The unspoilt Delegate region to the south also offers superb fly fishing in the numerous and abundant peat streams gently flowing through the area.

Whether you are just starting out in fly fishing or a veteran of many seasons the multitude of fly fishing options in the Snowy Mountains & Monaro region provide a whole new dimension for you to experience.

Encompassing the townships of Cooma, Jindabyne and Bombala as well as the smaller villages of Adaminaby and Delegate the region provides accommodation to suit all tastes. I can assist you in deciding where to base yourself depending on your requirements and the timing of your visit in order to gain the most productive outcome from your trip.

Tuition

Fly fishing tuition and instruction Advanced instruction and coaching

Fly fishing is a rewarding and exciting pursuit.

Learning to fly fish by yourself can be a frustrating task - made much easier by utilizing the services of a specialist, qualified and experienced fly fishing/fly casting Instructor. I have a nationally recognised category 1 Training Certificate and have been offering fly fishing tuition for more than 10 years.

If your a first timer a day out with an expert can be worth much more than months on your own. You will learn basic casting, fly fishing methods and gain an understanding of fly tackle, the trouts foods and the various flies we use to imitate them.

For more experienced fly fishers wishing to take that next step I can help you iron out casting problems and show you how to approach and catch fish in more challenging situations.

My extensive teaching program is conducted on the water  working directly with clients as individuals or small groups and I can put together a package to suit your requirements.

Flytying

Local fly patterns Tied for fishermen, by fishermen

The most important item of fly fishing tackle is undoubtedly the the fly we choose.  An inferior fly can be the difference between success or failure.

All my flies are tied using quality hooks and materials and can be made to suit the type of water you wish to fish. I am an established commercial fly tier and have fished extensively in Tasmania and  New Zealand.

I can assist you in choosing appropriate patterns.

My services are available for standard or more advanced fresh and saltwater patterns. Contact me for current prices.
